Tiempos verbales

1. Present Tense

Camino, luego me ducho para prepararme para el trabajo. 

I walk, then I take a shower to get ready for work.

Nadie aquí quiere mirar la película conmigo, entonces prefiero ir sola.

Nobody here prefers to watch the movie with me, so I prefer to go alone.

2. Present Progressive

A las tres de la madrugada estoy durmiendo.

At 3 in the morning, I´m sleeping.

Este semestre estoy tomando la clase de literatura.

This semester I´m taking literature.

Estamos escribiéndolo ahora mismo.  Lo estamos escribiendo ahora mismo.

We´re writing it right now.

3. Preterit

El mes pasado fuimos a Disneylandia.

Last month we went to Disneyland.

Te lo di.

I gave it to you.

¿Qué comieron los niños?

What did the kids eat?

4. Present perfect

Todavía no he terminado.

I haven´t finished yet.

Ya lo he hecho.

I´ve already done it.

¿Has ido alguna vez a Francia?

Have you ever gone to France?

5.   Imperfect

Cuando era niño, me gustaba mucho comer los Pop Tarts.

When I was a kid, I used to love to eat Pop Tarts.

¿Qué hora era cuando tú llegaste? 

What time was it when you arrive?

Hacía tanto calor que decidimos quedarnos en el hotel.

It was so hot that we decided to stay in the hotel.

Mi madre me lo preparaba todas las mañanas hasta que cumplí diez años.

My mother prepared it (breakfast) for me every morning until I turned 10.

6.  Future

¿Qué harás cuando le hables?

What will you do when you speak to him?

¿Qué hora será?

What time is it?*  (speculation)

En 2020 habrá más gente.

In 2020 there will be more people.

7. Subjunctive

Necesito que me lo traigas.

I need for you to bring it to me.

Nuestros profesores recomiendan que lo estudiemos.  Our professors recommend that we study it.

No creo que me hayan llamado.

I don´t think they have called me.

No es cierto que yo sea la única.

It´s not true that I´m the only one.

Es imprescindible que se haga todo con cuidado.

It´s imperative that everything is done with care.

Me siento feliz por el hecho de que estemos aquí.

I feel happy because of the fact that we´re here.

Cuando te titules, te llevaremos a Italia.

When you graduate, we´ll take you to Italy.

¿Hay alguien aquí que se llame Raúl?

Is there someone here who is named Raúl?

No hay ningún hotel que acepte tarjeta de crédito.

There is no hotel that accepts credit card.

Te hacemos este favor para que puedas ir al concierto.

We´re doing this favor for you so that you can go to the concert.

8. Past Perfect / Pluperfect

Cuando entré en la universidad, ya había conseguido mi carnet de conducir.

When I entered the university, I had already acquired my license.

José me llamó a las 11 de la noche porque se le había olvidado su cartera.

José called me at 11 at night because he had lost his wallet.

9. Future perfect

Para mañana ya habré leído todo el libro.

By tomorrow I will have read the whole book.

Será demasiado tarde porque ya se habrán hablado esos dos.

It will be too late because those two will have spoken.

Se habrá perdido.

He probably got lost. (speculation in the past)

10. Past Subjunctive

Querías que yo viniera contigo.

You wanted me to go with you.

Nadie creía que yo pudiera hacerlo.

Nobody believed that I could do it.

Nos alegrábamos por el hecho de que se terminasen temprano las clases.

Cuando el se titulase, sus padres les iban a llevar a Francia.

When he graduated, his parents were going to take him to France.

No había nadie que se vistiera de negro.

There was no one who dressed in black.

Le  felicitábamos  tan pronto como llegase a su casa.

We were going to congratulate him as soon as he arrived at his house.

11.  Conditional

Nos despediríamos de ti si nos dejaran entrar en el aeropuerto.

We would say goodbye to you if they were to let us enter the airport.

¿Qué comerías si pudiéramos elegir cualquier cosa del menú?

What would you eat if we could choose anything from the menu?

¿Cómo me lo dirías?

How would you tell it to me?

Serían las ocho cuando el teléfono sonó. 

It was probably eight when the phone ring. (speculation in the past)

¿Cómo que se puso enfermo?  Comería demasiado.

What do you mean he got sick?  He probably ate too much.

Me gustaría que en esa casa hubiera balcón.

I would like for there to be a balcony in that house.

Al profesor le gustaría que sus estudiantes escribieran más.

The professor would like for his students to write more.

12. Condicional Perfect

Yo habría participado en el campeonato si yo no me hubiera enfermado.

I would have participated in the championship if I hadn´t become sick.

¿Qué habrías hecho si esa mujer te hubiese hablado?

What would you have done if that woman had spoken to you?

Los profesores no habrían tenido que disciplinar a sus estudiantes si los alumnos si se hubieran comportado bien.

The professors would not have had to discipline their students if the students had behaved well.

Era importante que me los dieran.

It was important that they give them to me.
